parasite
Parasite is a series of pictures created by combining photography and activities on the borderlines of painting and collage, inspired by the works of Erich-Wolfgang Hartzsch. I used studio photos of the female body as a base for experiments with other media. I played with the paper body, creating stencils, collages or painting its parts with paint. Black and white, low-quality prints further emphasised the sketchy nature of these works. By creating them, I wanted to express my anger and sadness towards the bad situation of women in my home country, Poland. Red and black are the colours of the Women's Strike, a feminist social movement fighting against the tightening of the anti-abortion law. Over the past few years, millions of Polish women took to the streets in Poland and abroad within the protests organised by this movement. Unfortunately, despite such enormous resistance, the act came into force in December 2020, practically banning abortion in Poland, and thus depriving us of the right to decide about our own body and health.
