the end of tesco
The End of Tesco consists of two mastershots I recorded with a phone attached to a shopping trolley. An industrial hypermarket ceiling full of lamps, beams and ventilation pipes has become the leitmotif of the abstract videos. Tracking the image forming on the screen of the phone, I slowly pushed the cart along the tracks defined by the topography of the ceiling. The spontaneous route was disrupted by attempts to avoid a collision with shop clients unaware of my actions. During a series of rather chaotic walks lasting a dozen or so minutes, I felt alienated. This experience made me realize how different the purposes of our visits are. During this walk, focusing only on the visual aspects of the hypermarket made me think of the drift concept. The original function of the store has become of secondary importance. The project title is The End of Tesco because I shot them just before the liquidation of one of the last Tesco stores in Poland.
